On January 14, a caucus vote was held at the Otter Creek Town Hall to determine the candidates for Supervisor 2 on the Otter Creek Town Board. The position was contested by Bob Bernier (incumbent), Jon Robinson, and Jeff Dehnhoff. Since only two names could appear on the ballot, a caucus was required.
The caucus vote was conducted using anonymous paper ballots.. The results were as follows: Bernier received 7 votes, Robinson 5, and Dehnhoff 4. One individual abstained.
It was later discovered that a non-resident attendee had improperly participated in the caucus. As a result, a second vote was scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21, also at the Otter Creek Town Hall. This meeting drew a larger crowd, including two Sheriff’s deputies present to ensure the process remained orderly.
The second vote, also conducted via anonymous paper ballots, resulted in the nominations of Bob Bernier and Jeff Dehnhoff for Supervisor 2, making a third caucus unnecessary.
The meeting concluded without incident. The election for the Otter Creek Town Board is set to take place on Tuesday, April 1, at the Town Hall. Chair LeAnn Ralph and Supervisor 1 Cecil Hayes, both incumbents, are running for re-election.
Charges of voter fraud are pending against the non-resident who participated in the initial caucus.
