LA CROSSE – Tyler Reckin opened his collegiate golf career by capturing a 1op-10 finish in Viterbo University’s season opener in early September.
Reckin overcame three bogeys with a pair of birdies in the first round to finish with a strong one-over 73 at the Ham Lake, Minn, course, then tallied a 77 on the second day of competition to finish with a two-day score for 150, good for a tie for eighth. As a team, the V-Hawks placed third.
At the Wisconsin Lutheran College Invitational a week later, Reckin finished 70th in the 18-team meet (78-82 – 170) Reckin placed 19th at the one-day Waldorf Fall Invitational, tallying a 75.
Viterbo University, located in La Crosse, compete in the NAIA, return to action Wednesday, Oct. 14, when they host the V-Hawk Fall Shootout.
Reckin, a team captain at Menomonie High School, was a four-year member of the Mustang golf team and was a three-time All-Big Rivers Conference selection. Reckin earned honorable mention All-State in Division 1 and set the school record for the lowest 9-hole round. Reckin is majoring in business administration.
