Congratulations to the girls track and field team for taking the team title on March 25 at the 27-team Blue Devil Invite at Stout. Event champions included Bree Barfknecht in the 1600 meter run, Lauren McCalla in the 800 meter run and the 4 by 400 meter relay team of Barfknecht, McCalla, Rachel Riepl and Bella Drake. Two indoor school records were also broken. Lauren McCalla’s time of 2:19.94 in the 800 meter broke a 13 year old record, and Izzie Whitwam’s pole vault of 10 feet broke a two year old record. Way to go girls!
Congratulations to the boys track and field team for their outstanding performances at the Blue Devil Invite on March 25. The boys finished 2nd of 24 teams. Top individual event finishers were Logan Topper in the 1600m run, Jae Berg, 2nd in the 55m high hurdles, and Luke Ray, 2nd in the 3200m run. Event champions were Evan Olson, who won the 1600m run, Jae Berg winning the high jump and Nolan Bien who was the winner of the 55m high hurdles.

Third place finishes were Evan Olson in the high jump, Kellan Lehman in the triple jump and the 4x400m relay team of Liam Wachewicz, Owen Pelzel, Noah Winder and Everett Paulson. First place finishers were Bauer Messerschmidt in the pole vault and the 4x800m relay team of Evan Olson, Owen Pelzel, Noah Winder and Logan Topper.
The girls track and field team competed last week on March 27 & 28 in three different meets. Event champions at the Freshman-Sophomore meet on Thursday in Eau Claire included the 4 by 800 meter relay team of Rylee King, Bree Barfknecht, Bella Drake, and Addy Schuler and the 4 by 400 meter relay team of King, Schuler, Evelyn Doyle and Chloe Bablick. On Friday, we had event winners at the Northern Badger Invitational at Stout, including Izzie Whitwamin the pole vault, Bree Barfknecht in the 800 meter run, and Lauren McCalla in the 1600 meter run, where she set a new indoor school record with a time of 5 minutes, 1 second.

The boys team finished 2nd of 25 teams to extend their season record to 48 wins and 2 losses. Individual 2nd place finishers include Jae Berg in the 55m hurdles, Jae Berg in the long jump, Caleb Cameron in the 3200m run and the 4x400m relay team of Parker Jacobs, Peter Cimino, Nolan Bien and Owen Pelzel. Individual event champions were Nolan Bien in the 55m hurdles and Jae Berg in the high jump.
Softball had a good weekend March 28-29 going 2-1 at the Danny Mac Classic in Rhinelander. We started out the weekend with a big 15-0 win over Thorp on Friday. Saturday morning we lost a close game to Shawno 4-6 before bouncing back and beating Wautoma 15-0.
Congratulations to the following music students who auditioned into the Wisconsin School Music Associations All-State music ensembles. Cody Chen – trombone in Jazz Ensemble; Weston Wiersgalla – Bassoon in Orchestra; Amelia Osterhaus – Bass Clarinet in Band; Harrison Davis – Clarinet in Band. This is a significant honor and distinguishes these students as some of the best high school musicians in the state of Wisconsin.
Congratulations to the girls track team on their outstanding performances at the BRC Indoor Relays meet in Eau Claire. The team picked up 3rd place finishes from Kierston Coss in the high jump and Anika Schoenberger in the 1600 meter run. Second place finishes from Izzy Sorensen in the triple jump and the 55 meter hurdles, the 4 by 400 meter relay team of Rachel Riepl, Cassiah Casey, Claire Mikesell and Callie Travis, as well as the Throwers 4 by 200 meter relay team of Savannah Spiess, Taylor Hoff, Ellie Arndt and Emmi Marlett. Championships were won by Bennett Schmitt in the 1600 meter run and the team of Bree Barfknecht, Addy Schuler, Bella Drake and Lauren McCalla who won the Distance Medley Relay in an All-American qualifying and UW-Eau Claire facility record time of 12:29. The same foursome also won the 4 by 800 meter relay, smashing the indoor school record by 23 seconds with a time of 9:44.
MHS boys track team for their outstanding performances yesterday at the Big Rivers Indoor Relays meet in Eau Claire. 2nd place finishers include Jae Berg in the high jump, DJ Butler in the long jump and the throwers 4x200m relay team of Cody Schaefer, Parker Jacobs, Blake Kissh and Preston Witter. A special congratulations to Nolan Bien, who broke the 55m high hurdle school record, previously set in 1994.
Girls Softball team beat Waunakee 12-10. Top performers included Maci Marlett going 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs, Ellie Fisher going 3 for 3, Siera Auth went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, and Reese Barfknecht also brought in 2 RBIs. Amanda Holzhueter came in as relief pitcher and pitched an incredible game to seal the win.
Girls Softball split with Onalaska on Saturday winning game one 5-3 and losing game two 9-10. Megan McMahon, Amanda Holzhueter, Livi Sample, Siera Auth, and Maci Marlett all had a great day at the plate recording 3 hits each.
The Varsity Baseball Team traveled to Superior this past Saturday for a doubleheader. They came home with two victories. The team showed excellent composure and toughness to bring home a sweep. In game one, the Mustangs won 9-7. Owen Welch led the Mustang’s offensive attack in game one going 2-3 with a grand slam. Zach Miller got the victory in game 1 on the mound. Game 2, the Mustangs won 10-5. Landon Mittlestadt with a 2 run home run and a triple, and Taylor Mars, with a single and two triples, led the Mustang offense. Rex Drout got the victory on the mound for the Mustangs.
National History Day: Congratulations to Kendra Schmidt and Ana Weber on advancing to State for National History Day. Their project took first place at Eau Claire’s Regional Competition. Their project is among the best in the state, and they will be competing to advance to Nationals on May 3rd in Madison.
Congratulations to the girls varsity soccer team. They beat Altoona 8-0 on Saturday. Sydney Norby led the way with five goals and an assist. Other goal scorers include: Allysa Benrud, Lauren Alexander and Katelian Bossany.
The boys tennis team traveled to Muskego and Mukwonago over the weekend claiming 3rd place at the 16 team invitational. The Mustangs beat Big Foot 6-1 and Germantown 6-1 before falling in the semi finals to eventual tournament champion Mukwonago. They finished the tournament by beating Waukesha South 5-2 in the third place match.

Sara Palmer and Rylee King had excellent races in the 1600 meter run, while Kayla Hoiby, Aubrin Babl and Nora Pejsa posted some spectacular times in the 60 meter dash. Ana Estepa-Brown had a great triple jump, Callie Travis had a nice day in the high jump, and the team of Rylee King, Cassiah Casey, Chloe Bablick and Claire Mikesell had an amazing time in the 4 by 400 meter relay to finish the night.
Science Olympiad teams competed last weekend at the State Science Olympiad Championship. The Varsity Teamplaced 3rd overall out of 60 teams behind Champions Marquette University and Runner-ups Madison West. The JV Team was also the 3rd JV team behind Madison and Marquette. Many students brought home individual medals including: State Champions: Grant Burns and Luke Ray in Geocaching; State Runner-ups Noah Winder and Oliver Lugo in Bungee Drop; Ben Seguin and Bri Klimek in Forestry; Jay Beston and Lilly Gregerson in Write It Do It; Bri Klimek and Ellie Beck in Horticulture; Third Places: Grant Burns and Amy Liu in Anatomy; Grant Burns and Luke Ray in Dynamic Planet; Ben Seguin and Olivia Rubenzer in Forensics; Enzo Parent and Ethan Pax in Optics; Ethan Pax and Bri Klimek in Wind Power; Fourth Places: Cole Christenson and Ethan Pax in Material Science; Maddie Horvath, Oliver Lugo and Ben Seguin in Code Busters; Olivia Rubenzer and Amy Liu in Electric Vehicle; Grant Burns and Amy Liu in Microbiology; Amy Liu and Ellie Beck in Precision Med; Nora Trotter and Toni Fiorini In Horticulture; Pacji Xiong and Gabi Johnhston in Write it Do it.
Congratulations to the girls soccer teams. Both JV and Varsity beat La Crosse Logan yesterday. Varsity won 4-1 with four different players scoring: Katelian Bossany, Sydney Norby, Olivia Rubenzer and Ari Beazley. Both JV’s goals were scored by Pajci Xiong for their 2-0 win.
