WIAA competition was just about everywhere as nearly all Menomonie High School spring teams were in action this week. The boys golf team was at UW-River Falls, the boys tennis team was at sectional competition at Eau Claire Memorial and softball hosted a first round regional contest against River Falls. Baseball and girls soccer get the post-season underway June 2.
Boys Golf Advances to Sectional
The MHS boys golf team advanced to the WIAA sectional by finishing second in the WIAA Regional Meet, May 26, at River Falls Golf Club. The Mustangs were led by Tyler Reckin, who tied for medalist honors with an even par 71. As a team, Menomonie scored 305. The Mustangs were edged by Hudson, which finished with 300 strokes. Host River Falls was third (310) and New Richmond fourth (313).
Trent Wold finished ninth with a 76. Quin Rabeneck tallied a 78 and Wes Miller an 80.
The Mustangs will compete at the WIAA Division 1 Sectional at Rivers Edge Golf in Marshfield, Tuesday, June 2.
Menomonie was coming off a fourth place finish at the Big Rivers Conference (BRC) Championship, May 20 at Turtleback Golf Club in Rice Lake and also finished fourth overall in the BRC. Reckin finished third (3 over 74) at the meet, earning first team all-BRC honors. Miller placed seventh (76) and earned second team all-BRC honors. Wold scored a 79 and Rebenbeck an 84.
Hudson won the BRC meet (301), Rice Lake was second (306) and River Falls third (312).

Boys Tennis One Single, One Doubles Team to State
The MHS boys tennis team qualified one individual and one team to the WIAA Boys Tennis Championship, June 4-6 at Nielsen Sports Center in Madison.
No. 1 singles player Harrison Davis will make the trip, as will the No. 1 doubles team of Jacob Rue and Davin Ellis. Davis (25-7) is slated to face Camden Oppenner (25-4) of Westosha Central in the first round. Rue and Ellis (19-3) are slated to meet Hugo Boyden/Drew Schneider (10-0) of Whitefish Bay in the opener.
Menomonie finished third in the team results with 31 points, following Hudson (50) and Stevens Point (42). Complete Menomonie sectional and sub-sectional results are listed below.

The Mustangs finished second at the Big Rivers Conference championship May 19 in Eau Claire. The Mustangs captured first place finishes from Bruce Behrend at No. 3 singles, and the doubles team of Elliot Risler and Bricin Leisses captured No. 3 doubles.
Seven Mustangs earned all conference honors: 1st Team: Jake Rue, Davin Ellis, and Bruce Behrend; 2nd Team: Harrison Davis, Caleb Gunderson, Elliot Risler, and Bricin Leisses.
Softball Sees Season Come to an End
The Mustangs softball team saw their season come to an end in the first round of the WIAA Regionals at Wakanda Park. The Mustangs have been on both ends of big wins and big losses and the season closer turned out to be a big loss. Menomonie was the eighth seed and hosted ninth seed River Falls May 26.
The Mustangs had swept the Wildcats this season, taking wins of 8-0, 8-2, but River Falls turned the tables with a 15-1 win. River Falls held a 7-0 lead before the Mustangs scored their lone run in the fifth inning. River Falls tallied eight runs in the top of the seventh. The Mustangs finished their season at 13-12 overall, 7-7 in the BRC.
Baseball, Girls Soccer Tournament Seasons Looming
The MHS baseball team will get tournament play underway when they host Marshfield, Tuesday, June 2 at 5 p.m. at Wakanda Park. The MHS girls soccer team will enter WIAA Division 2 play when they travel to Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School June 2 where they will meet Holmen at 7 p.m.
The baseball team won their regional open when Bailey Casey pitched a three-hit, 2-0 shutout over Marshfield Tuesday. Menomonie plays at Chippewa Falls, Thursday, June 4 at 5 p.m. at Casper Park. Complete Story
